Sessions 12 and 13

Sessions 12 and 13 proved to be very exciting for the girls as they learnt about the English legal system and then staged a mock trial with the help of Mrs Amanda Yip Q.C from Exchange Chambers, Liverpool, Miss Anna Fox and Mr Peter Goodbody from Oriel Chambers, Liverpool and Miss Jessica Stone, Miss Sarah Lee, Mr Jonathan Buchan and Miss Jacqueline Wall from Chambers in Preston.

Amanda, Anna and Jacqueline are all old girls of the school and along with the other legal experts they supported and helped the girls to understand the role of the prosecuting barrister and solicitor, the defence barrister and solicitor, the court clerk and court usher.  Jacqueline explained the process of swearing in the witnesses and the rules of a court, including the way to speak to the judge, she also showed the girls her own court robes and horsehair wig, which the girls then wore during the mock trial.

The girls were given a murder scenario titled, 'The death of Carly Windup' (see below)
